A review of St Marys West Derby C Of E Primary School by RON SMITH written on Saturday 20th of August 2011
POINT OF INTEREST,--MAYBE A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY, BACK IN THE FIFTIES MY CLASSROOM FRIEND WAS A LAD CALLED ROY HEYWOOD ,WE WERE FRIENDS RIGHT UP TO WHEN HE DIED IN APPROX 2009 . HIS FATHER WAS NEVER AROUND FOR HIM AND I CAN`T EVER REMEMBER HIM TALKING ABOUT HIM . THEN HE TOLD ME HE HAD BEEN ASKED TO ATTEND ONE OF HIS NAMESAKE RELATIVES WHO LIVED IN A BIG MANSION HOUSE IN THE MIDLANDS, ON ARRIVING IN HIS SMALL MINI-ESTATE AND PARKING BEHIND A ROLLS ROYCE HE CLIMBED THE STEPS AND RANG THE BELL . A SERVANT OPENED THE DOOR ,ASKE HIS NAME ,THEN LED HIM TO A WAITING ROOM. AFTER A WHILE HE WAS LED TO A ROOM AND WAS INTRODUCED TO THE OWNER WHO HAD A TITLED NAME OF HEYWOOD . ROY WAS THEN PRESENTED WITH A SMALL PARCEL AND TOLD TO KEEP IT IN SAFEKEEPING I.E. A BANK . YEARS LATER HE SHOWED ME THIS PARCEL TO WHICH HE`D TOOK IT OUT OF THE BANK TO RE-INSURE IT . IT WAS A GOLD WATCH INSIDE A GOLD CASE AND WAS INSCRIBED TO A LIEUTENANT HEYWOOD OF THE FAMED SHIP THE BOUNTY TO WHICH THE STORY OF THE MEUTONY CAME ABOUT . I NEVER EVER GOT TO KNOW WERE THE WATCH WENT TO OR HOW MUCH IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VALUED AT WHEN HE OPENED IT AND SHOWED ME IT CHIMING EVERY QUARTER OF AN HOUR FOR WHEN ON WATCH IN THE NIGHTIME THEY COULD TELL THE TIME IN THE DARK . WELL I THINK A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY WITH MY FRIEND ROY HEYWOOD HAS BEEN PASSED ONTO WEST DERBY C.OF. E. SCHOOL BY HIS LONG LOST FRIEND RON SMITH .
