A review of St Pauls Eye Hospital by Stephen Henry Louden written on Tuesday 22nd of June 2010
In these days of hearing that the NHS is going to hell in a handcart, I want the world to know that it's still not so in Liverpool,if it ever was and the truth needs to be told about St Pauls Eye Hospital, Liverpool. I turned up - self referred for a suspected retinal detachment - about 0830 on Tuesday 22 June, filled in a form and took my turn at waiting. It happened to be a very busy Tuesday with others like me turning up unannounced so as I waited I heard a certain amount of complaining of the sort that "I've been waiting here two hours" I have to ask, what planet do these people live on where their every otherr need is instantly gratified? I was examined by a doctor about 11am and referred to St Pauls Outpatients where a magnificent Opthalmic Surgeon Mr Chris Baddon saw me, re-examined my eye, did his best to allay my fears, confirmed a retinal tear, explained all the pros and cons of retinal laser surgery, and immediately carried out the procedure with the minimum of fuss and fear.
Five hours from start to finish! The service couldn't be better and is a huge credit to the NHS and everyone working at St Pauls. Admirable! Go On! Take a Bow!
