A review of St Dominic's Catholic School by Rose Staunton written on Tuesday 10th of September 2019
Have very good memories of St Dominic's, both infant's and Junior. Miss Horgan was Head Mistress and Miss Breen was the scholorship teacher. There were lots of playing fields all around and the playground was very big.or was I just small. Father Mac (McNamee) was parish priest and there was Father Lawn, Father Dooley and Father Gagen. I made my first communion at St. Doms. and my confirmation.Seems so long ago. The church looks lovely in the photo's.I can't believe that the school has disappeared.Where do the children go to school, now? I remember being in Miss Farnon's class and winning a quarter pound of tea in a draw. Tea was still rationed, so to run home with a packet ot tea was like bringing home gold dust.We we told to think of a number between one and one hundred and write it down. Whoever picked the same number as Miss Farnon won the tea. I picked fifty one, my Mam's age. She was delighted with the tea until she found out that I'd told the whole class how old she was.But everyone in the family had a good laugh at the idea of it all.Can you imagine that being the case today. Celebrating winning a quarter of tea? Happy Days at St Dominic's.
